Tips for Decorating with Landscape Sculptures

Nature is often the inspiration for sculpture, and as such, you will find many pieces of art that are based on various styles of landscapes, or those which are designed to be viewed within the overall context of a natural landscape. These pieces can vary in their accuracy to details and method of depiction. While some landscape sculptures can be calm and relaxing to view, others are designed to display the sheer raw power of nature. Because there are so many variations and types of this kind of art, it can be an exciting type of art to own. Many types of landscape sculpture are specifically designed to be displayed in a natural environment, sometimes even having parts of the piece interacting or integrating with the surrounding landscape itself. This style of sculpture, which connects directly with nature in some way, can often be especially inspiring and interesting. Sometimes landscape sculpture can even be created entirely from nature, as can be the case when living plants are manipulated and trimmed to form the sculpture itself.

Realistic Landscape Sculptures

Landscape sculptures are often created as a realistic representation of a certain area, or of a particular type of landscape setting such as the rocks of a coastline or a grouping of trees. When these types of pieces are integrated into an outdoor environment, it can produce the effect of art being an actual part of nature. Other times, the piece itself isn't actually designed to depict a landscape feature, and instead could be a statue of a person or animal that is designed to be used in an outdoor setting. Either way, these realistic sculptural pieces can make a striking addition to any type of exterior decor.

Abstract Landscape Sculptures

One of the most popular types of landscape sculpture is often abstract art. Abstract sculpture pieces are commonly used by municipalities and businesses as part of their landscaping, because of their striking appearance and ability to appeal to a large number of people. Sometimes a piece of abstract art can be as simple as a single shape, and yet it has the ability to evoke a number of different types of feelings and emotions, depending on who is viewing it and under what circumstances. Often large in scale, abstract sculptures have a way of either blending in with their environment, or contrasting starkly with it to create a strong design statement.

Materials Used for Landscape Sculptures

The variety of materials that can be used for landscape art is as varied as the art itself. Other than the fact that the material needs to be able to stand up to the effects of outdoor elements, such as variations in temperatures and moisture, almost any material can be used as part of a piece of landscape art. Although metals, stone and wood are certainly common mediums for this style of art, some artists intentionally work in unconventional materials and mediums, some of which seem completely out of place in an outdoor environment, to create the design impact and emotional response from the viewer that they are trying to achieve.
